Guides for every step of your UAE move.

Sourced from official UAE government portals — u.ae, ICP, GDRFA, RTA, DHA, KHDA, DLD — and updated whenever the rules change.

The UAE offers several residence pathways: the Standard Work Visa (employer-sponsored, 2 years), the Green Visa (5-year self-sponsorship for skilled workers, freelancers and investors), the Golden Visa (5- or 10-year for talents, investors, scientists, top students), the Blue Visa (10-year for environmental contributors), plus retirement, study and family-sponsorship visas. All applications are processed through ICP (Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security) or, in Dubai, through GDRFA.

Step-by-step

  1. 1
Verify your job offer & qualifications
Confirm employer's establishment card, get your degree attested by the UAE Embassy in your home country and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the UAE.
  2. 2
    Obtain an entry permit
Your sponsor (employer or self) applies via ICP / GDRFA. The permit lets you enter the UAE for 60 days to complete formalities.
  3. 3
    Medical fitness test
Mandatory blood test and chest X-ray at a government-approved clinic (DHA, SEHA, or MoHAP). Required for everyone over 18.
  4. 4
    Emirates ID biometrics
Visit an ICP service centre for fingerprints and photo. The Emirates ID arrives within 5–10 working days.
  5. 5
    Visa stamping
Residence visa is electronically linked to your Emirates ID — no passport sticker since 2022.
